I chose to read the Joy Luck Club because I have seen the movie. After I have seen a movie I often check if their is a book to go along with the movie.  I have read such books that were or are now movies  like The Beach and Message in a Bottle.   The Joy Luck Club is a novel about four mothers and daughters and there relationships through the struggle for them to Americanize.  The four mothers start a club called Joy Luck.  During the war in Japan, four woman wanted to celebrate their lives so they began a club for woman who wanted to celebrate their heritage and their bonds they share.  During the book the woman try and pass on their Japanese heritage to their daughters who only want to push them away.   I have enjoyed the book very much so far and find it to be more interesting than the movie.  I understand the book a lot more than the movie.  I suggest anybody reading this because I now understand the reason the Japanese are so strict on their ways and I understand more about a different culture.
