What is NCTE all about?
The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. Since 1911, NCTE has provided a forum for the profession, an array of opportunities for teachers to continue their professional growth throughout their careers, and a framework for cooperation to deal with issues that affect the teaching of English.
NCTE at IUP
NCTE's University affiliate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania seeks to promote the goals of the National Organization on a local level. We're about preparing English and Language Arts professionals through experience and practice while growing as a community. NCTE - IUP allows IUP English Education majors to get their feet wet in the field of teaching English while learning professionalism and the art of teaching. We seek to learn to teach English by following the 12 Standards for the English Language Arts. We also just have a lot of fun!
National Mission Statement
Here is NCTE's mission statement as it appears in the NCTE Strategic Plan (8/90): "The Council promotes the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language." |
