First Day Writing Sample. Copy and paste this page into a new Word Document. When you have completed this assignment, save your document to your first research journal. Create a folder for this first journal and save it in several places (H drive, thumb drive). Then send only the Word document to me as an email attachment (lmasiell@iup.edu).

1. Go to your favorite website for news. Choose an article on the website. You should choose an article that you can read in about ten minutes, and you should choose an article in which there is plenty of interesting information and there is also a point of view expressed by the writer. Write a response to it, following these guidelines:

1. Write out the title of the article, the author's name, the name of the website and the primary source of publication, if available.

2. Read the article through once. Write a few sentences in which you summarize the main ideas of the article.

3. Read the article once more. Write a few sentences in which you discuss the most interesting information in the article, and explain why you think this information is interesting.

4. Read the article again. Write a paragraph in which you identify and explain your opinion about the information in this article. Explain how your opinion is similar to or different from the author's.
