Guidelines for Weekly Presentations (weeks 1-4)

These will be informal presentations, more like opportunities to share your ideas, research, discoveries, and questions.

How you should prepare:

1. Do some freewriting in response to these questions: what have I learned this week that has been most meaningful, interesting, or thought-provoking for/to me?  What subjects or ideas have come up during class discussion that would I like to know more about? How have I written about topics in class that have led me to consider some new ways of thinking about topics related to The National Parks? What ideas did I have in particular about specific sections of any of the readings or films we have considered?

2. Make notecards for yourself. On each notecard, list one thing that you want to remember to talk about.

3. Practice speaking in front of a friend. Plan on talking for about five minutes. I will wave at you if you speak more than 7 minutes, then ask you to wrap up your comments.

4. What do you think your classmates would benefit from knowing more about that you have uncovered during the week? If you want to point the class to a webpage, feel free to do so. You may also prepare a one-page handout with references (this is only required for the fifth-week presentation on your major project).

5. You may choose to ask the class questions as part of your discovering other considerations related to the topics you have introduced.
