1. List contemporary issues that interest you, such as items from the news, campus events, activities, or controversies, or topics that you enjoy reading and learning about.

2. Choose one of these topics and freewrite about it. Describe what you already know about the topic; describe what you would like to know more about. Explain your opinion on this topic also. Comment on what you believe about the issue. Look for angles that you could ask questions about.
