PowerPoint Presentation Rubric

 

The rubric below is presented in the form of questions to ask yourself about the PowerPoint presentation you are watching.  Use the answers to the questions to rate the presentations in terms of:

 

  1. Focus

  2. Organization

  3. Mechanics

  4. Graphics

  5. Visibility

  6. Readability

  7. Poise

  8. Multimedia effects (extra credit)

 

1. Does the presentation have a focus?

 

High – I can summarize the presentation in a sentence.

 

Medium – My summary includes more than one main idea.

 

Low – I can’t get a main idea at all.

 

2.  Is the presentation organized?

 

High – I was not confused about where the presentation was going.

 

Medium – At times, I was confused about where the presenter was going.

 

Low – There may or may not be a central idea, but I could not get any idea of what the presenter was trying to say about the topic.

 

3. Are there mechanical problems with the presentation?  (typographical errors, spelling, infelicitous diction or syntax, etc.)

 

High - I noticed one or two small typographical errors or sentence flaws.

 

Medium – If the presenter is an English teacher, I noticed an embarrassing number of errors in the presentation.

 

Low – The errors interfered with my ability to understand the presentation.

 

 

4. Do the graphics in the presentation enhance the visual effect of the slides?

 

High – The graphics are well chosen.  I thought they were visually pleasing and enhanced the meaning presented in each slide and were visually pleasing.

 

Medium – I thought the graphics were not especially helpful in enhancing the meaning of the slides.

 

Low – I could not see any purpose to the graphics in the slides and/or they were distracting me from the presentation.

 

5. Were the slides easy to follow?

 

High – I could easily see the slides from my seat.

 

Medium – I had trouble seeing the slides because the contrast between the font and the background was insufficient or too small.

 

Low - From my seat, I could not see the presentation at all.

 

Were there too many slides or were the slides too full of information?

 

6. High - I was able to get a chance to see each slide and think about it while the presenter was talking about it.

 

Medium – I had trouble reading some of the slides because they were too full and/or there were too many slides for me to follow.

 

Low – I thought that the presentation was hard to follow because there were too many slides or there was too much information presented on a slide.

 

7. Does the presenter have a professional and relaxed demeanor?

 

High – I thought that the presenter was very poised and dressed appropriately for the presentation.

 

Medium – I thought the presenter was a bit nervous and/or was not dressed entirely appropriately.

 

Low - My impression is that the presenter is so nervous that s/he is distracted from what s/he had to say and distracted me as well.  I also thought that  the presenter was not dressed or groomed appropriately for the occasion.

 


 

Did the presenter use multimedia effects in the presentation?

 

High – The presenter used one or more multimedia effects in the presentation (sound, video, internet, etc.)  I thought that the use of the effect(s) enhanced the presentation.

 

Medium – I thought that the multimedia effects were used to show off the presenter’s skills.  I was a bit distracted because there was some difficulty with the multimedia (e.g. logging on the Internet).

 

Low – The multimedia effects distracted me from the presentation and/or interfered with the presentation because they did not work properly.
