Haunted Train, Saturday, October 19th and 26th in the evening.
Once again, Jon Dubbs is organizing the haunted train ride in . The train Is part of an antique railroad. The ride on Saturday night, October 19th and 26th would involve us in creating frightening displays to scare the folks on the train. I went last year and had a lot of fun. John is responsible for the haunted car this year. This is public service work and John does it every year. Please contact John if you are willing to help out. He will work out what you can do. If you want to scare some folks, please help out.
November 9, 7th Army drill at Buck’s Farm
See you at Buck’s Farm. Keep an eye on the 7th Army list for details.
November 10th, Cruise on the Liberty Ship John Brown, Baltimore, MD.
We have an offer to do an unusual event, take a cruise on a Liberty Ship with a group of WW II veterans on November 10th. The cruise will originate in Baltimore Harbor and return to the dock after a three-hour cruise on the Potomac River.
Shades of Gilligan’s Island. I know who the Skipper is, but who will play Gilligan on the cruise ;-)
The ship is named the John Brown and served as a troop ship in World War II, carrying soldiers to England. The cruises are normally open to the public, but we would be sharing it with veterans only. The cost of the cruise is normally $130. We would be going for free and doing a living history for the vets. There is normally a strafing by a Japanese plane and a German fighter. The deck gun crew performs a drill, possibly firing blank rounds. I do not have all the information yet.
The problem is that we will be at Buck’s Farm on Saturday and the cruise is Sunday afternoon. We can go to Baltimore and stay on the ship on Saturday night. The driving time is probably about 2 and one half to three hours to downtown Baltimore. We can sleep on board the ship on Saturday night if we like.
Mike Martin is our point of contact, but he does not have email. Until he gets email, I will serve as point of contact. Please let me know as soon as possible.
To go, you would have to be willing to leave Buck’s Farm in the afternoon and drive to Baltimore. We will get you directions to the dock.
This is the main event.
We will be discussing the schedule for next year and the new directions
we will be taking. If you do not meet the registration deadline, they will
not let you register. We will be
meeting with Joe Horvath of the PA Military Museum to discuss the Boalsburg
event for Memorial Day 2003.
Website.
Point of contact: Mike Williamson
We have spoken with Frank and he has agreed to the date.
We will need volunteers to work at the event, primarily with parking on Friday
late afternoon and evening. I will
handle registration and will need some relief at night and on Saturday AM.
Point of contact: Mike Williamson
This event is one of our most important.
We will be representing the 28th Division at their memorial. Joe Horvath, the Museum Curator and Educator, would like us
to move toward a more active event.
We have discussed a number of plans, including a K ration issue, pay call, and
mail call. We might also have some
close order drill for a short period of time.
We will have much to discuss at The Gap about the possibilities.
Back to the Pacific.
We have a number of others who would like to join us, including some
swabbies.
