English 121: Humanities Literature

Subject: 121 eJournal: Poetic Musings Body of the Message: (Copy the questions below into your email message. Type your answers after each question. Then send your completed eJournal to Dr. Pagnucci. Write answers that are as complete as possible. Note also that grammar and spelling will not be counted for eJournals, so just do your best.)
1. Describe your attitudes toward reading poetry. Why do you think you feel this way? 2. Have you ever written any poetry? If so, say a little about one of your poems. If not, explain why you've never written a poem. 3. Former U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy and William Jefferson Clinton, Jr., both had poets read at their presidential inagurations. (Our current president didn't do very well in college, so he skipped the poetry for his inauguration.) Why do you think some presidents have had poets read at this important political event? 4. The philosopher Aristotle believed that poets should be banned from the Greek Republic. Why would he feel this way? Can poets be dangerous to society? 5. Does poetry have any value to society? Why or why not? 6. Write a few lines of poetry to describe yourself. |
