English 808: Technology & Literacy

Presentations Schedule--Summer I, 2008

Dr. Gian Pagnucci

Presentations Overview

Our final week of class will be focused on conference-style presentations. Below is the schedule. For the presentations, please plan to dress in suitable attire. Each speaker will have 15 minutes to make their presentation. There should also be time for about 15 minutes worth of questions. You are welcome to use the teaching station in the classroom if you want to show a PowerPoint, web site, video, book quote, etc. Using technology is not required for the presentation, but it is encouraged to enhance the talks. Be sure to limit technology use so that you can stay within your 15 minute allotted time frame.

We hope these presentations:

  • give everyone a chance to take center stage

  • give us all lots of interesting points to think about

  • help crystallize issues related to research methodology, technology, and literacy

  • facilitate interesting linkages from the various course sections

  • generate lots of questions

  • provide valuable practice for future conference and employment presentations

  • demonstrate some of your learning achievements from the semester

  • showcase your strengths as a developing C&T graduate student and teacher scholar

  • leave us all feeling proud of your work

Speaker Roles

We are asking that anyone labeled as a Speaker 2 will introduce the next panel by reading that panel's presenter biographies (see below). We are also asking Speaker 1's to provide a brief overview of the panel's theme while Speaker 3's can provide a few summarizing final thoughts about the overall panel. Nothing too detailed, but enough to set the stage for our collective thinking about the panel themes. Please contact your other panel members to get a sense of what they will be talking about and to coordinate your speaker roles.

Materials Required for Presentation

Please bring to your presentation:

  • a presenter biography (one page with your name, job title and university affiliation, presentation title, and a 2-3 sentence biographical statement)

  • about 25 copies of a presentation handout (one page with your name, presentation title, main research question[s], main theoretical framework[s], summary of key presentation points, list of a few key APA references, useful web addresses, relevant images)
