Proposal for Narrative Paper

Dr. Gian Pagnucci

Proposal Assignment Overview

To help you get your paper started for the course, I'd like you to create a brief (1 page) proposal. This proposal should scope out your idea so far (that idea could change, of course, as you start writing). The proposal will also help me think about what you are working on and how I might guide you toward writing a good paper.

Your proposal should contain the following sections (please include these headings). Again, 1 page in length is sufficient. You are writing a proposal, you are not writing the paper!

Your Name: Self-explanatory. (I hope!)

Working Title: You are writing a story, so aim for something creative. You can, and probably will, change the title later. For now, just brainstorm a title to get rolling.

Story Focus: What event does this story focus on? Hopefully your story will have at least a vague connection to the issues of literacy, language learning, and/or reading and writing.

Main Characters: Briefly describe the main people in your story. Try to list a few interesting things about each character as you write this part.

Story Setting: Describe where this story takes place. Try to list a few vivid details about the place as you write this part.

Story Rationale: Why do you want to write about this story? Explain your choice as best you can. (But remember, sometimes the best stories are the ones whose importance we don't initially understand.)
