Lynne Alvine is known by her students and colleagues as a dedicated teacher and mentor. As the Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Teaching English program, she advises both prospective and in-service secondary English teachers.
As former Director of the Southcentral Pennsylvania Writing Project, she works closely with public and private school teachers across the grade levels and in various subject areas. For the past
seven summers, she has worked in the Oxford Summer Study Program, a three-week study abroad collaboration among SSHE faculty. In the fall of 2002, she became Director of the Oxford program.
Dr. Alvine has served as secretary of the Executive Committee of the Conference on English Education (CEE), a sub-group of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She
is a former editor of the “Conversations from the Commissions” Column for CEE’s journal English Education. She regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English
and English education, including Adolescent Literature, Speech and Communication in Secondary English,
Shakespeare, Research on Teaching Literature and Literacy, and Teaching Writing. She teaches Liberal Studies English courses and serves as mentor to English Teaching Associates. Dr. Alvine serves the wider University as a member of the IUP Safe Zone Program. At home, she enjoys bird watching and gardening, as well as gourmet cooking. She shares her home with Linda Cline, Sage and Sandy (two rambunctious Sheltie dogs), and a feisty tabby cat named Elizabeth.
