Why attend Summer Institute?

  • learn more about reading and writing and how to establish literacy communities in your classroom

  • earn 6 graduate credits in research-based, best practices for literacy learners

  • fulfill Act 48 hours

  • become certified as a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant

  • develop a new understanding of your own teaching practice

  • receive grant funding for tuition costs (if not funded by school district)

Program content meets criteria set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Participants engage in writing-to-learn strategies, which many then use in presenting workshops and seminars to other teachers. SPWP Teacher Consultants establish lifelong involvement in writing groups and conversations, reading and writing. The strength of the program comes from the teachers who are part of it.

Read more about the benefits of being a member of the National Writing Project by downloading the "Welcome" booklet. (Booklet is a large PDF file.)
